Hanafuda

Hanafuda, originating in mid-Edo Japan, appeared in my childhood memories as a leisurely pastime of my grandmother’s generation. I have divided the twelve monthly seasons of the Hanafuda into four chapters, comprising a total of 48 cards, each corresponding to the growth of three women in my family—including myself—and our migratory journey since the 1950s.
